May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

| traditional gaelic blessing |
May your troubles be less and your blessings be more.
And nothing but happiness come through your door!

Rotarians Join Heart 2 Heart Visit to Mexico
DGN Frank Rothermel (Knoxville), Roy Diatikar (West Knoxville), Dick Hinton (West Knoxville), Ron Stellhorn (Oak Ridge), and Ron Appuhn (Maryville) joined Fred Hahn (our Zones 30-31 Rotary International Director) and his wife Marge, Judy Hollander (District Governor from 6560 Indiana), and five other travelers from Indiana and Missouri for the fifth annual Heart 2 Heart visit to Mexico District 4170.
We arrived in Mexico City on Wednesday February 17. 4170 District Governor Ernesto Guevara Rodriguez and his wonderful wife Frances hosted our dinner. On Thursday we attended the District Breakfast, where 300 Rotarians and spouses meet monthly for a Rotary program and fellowship. Later we visited the hospital where Rotarians are sponsoring kidney transplants for underprivileged teenagers. There was not a dry eye in the room when one child, a transplant recipient said "thank you for saving my life". Lunch was with the past district governors, followed by a late afternoon visit to a girls' shelter.
Friday in Ecatepec, we visited two middle schools where Rotarians have sponsored water tanks. At Hospital de las Americas, we saw where our district clubs have sponsored the purchase of three infant radiant cradles and craniotomy equipment during the past two fiscal years. From there we visited the nearby pyramids and were later hosted for a real Mexican Rotary party!

Saturday brought another full day of seeing Rotary in action. In Texcoco we watched a town celebration for delivery of wheelchairs by local Rotarians. Later we visited the rural well that was the first Heart 2 Heart project. We also visited Sahagun, another small town where Rotarians are improving a center for people with disabilities such as Downs Syndrome and cerebral palsy. On Sunday the Tennessee group returned, tired but also excited and motivated by the passion and hard work of the Mexico Rotarians, the success of the projects that we have participated in as partners, and the enormous potential for growth in fellowship and projects.
In 2008-09, eight District 6780 clubs partnered in a Foundation humanitarian matching grant for $41,800. This grant purchased an infant radiant cradle and craniotomy equipment. In 2009-10, nine District 6780 clubs have partnered with clubs from other districts and with four other districts for $180,837. These grants will support more hospital medical equipment, deliver a new ambulance to a rural area with no ambulance service, provide water tanks in middle schools, renovate and ship used fire trucks to rural communities, and provide kidney transplants for eight to ten teenaged children. Th Heart 2 Heart projects are all fully funded except for the kidney transplant project. If your club would like to help with the kidney transplant project, please contact Ron Appuhn.
