Membership recruitment can help Rotary clubs identify and bring new members into their club and has the information necessary for how to process a membership proposal form.
- Each club should have a membership committee which develops a comprehensive plan for recruitment of members
- Look for the following characteristics when recruiting new members:
- Adult person of good character and good business, professional and/or community reputation
- Engaged as a proprietor, partner, corporate officer, or manager of any worthy and recognized business or profession
- Holding any important position in any worthy and recognized business or profession or any brach or agnecy therof and have executive capacity with discretionary authority
- Having retired from any position described above
- Being a community leader who has demonstrated through personal involvement in community affairs a commitment to service and the Object of Rotary
- Having the status of Rotary Foundation alumnus
When a prospective new member has been identified, the sponsor should complete part A of the Membership Proposal Form and submit to the club secretary. Per the instructions, the prospective new member shall not be notified of their proposed membership until the board of directors has approved their proposal. This is to prevent embarrassment of the proposed member, sponsor, and club should the application be denied.
Classification is the Rotary way of identifying a member's separate and distinct business or professional service rendered to the community. Each club determines the classifications that exist in its community. Because classifications are unique to each club, Rotary does not publish a classification list. Each active club member is assigned a classification, which correlates to the member's principal and recognized business or professional activity or that of the member's firm, company, or institution.
- Each club in District 6780 should have an active classification roster, which is a complete list of classifications in the club's community.
- Each club should perform a classification review each Rotary year to define new classifications and open classifications are sources for recruiting new members.
